Equality and Excellence
The children in Class 1 are in Year One and are making the important transition from the EYFS to Key Stage One of the National Curriculum.
Class 1 is taught by Mrs Johnson (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning) and Mrs Scanlan (Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday).
A day in the life of Class 1…
Our day starts with a warm welcome and a quick chance for us all the catch up. Every day we have English and maths lessons which involve interactive activities. We have a daily guided reading which ensure that every child will read with the teacher at least once a week. Each day we enjoy a fun phonics lesson where the children learn about reading and spelling.
We also cover a range of subjects which means any day may include, science, history, geography, art etc. These subjects are taught in a range of ways to make them fun and creative.
Class 1 also have access to areas of provision both indoors and out. This gives these young children chance to consolidate their learning through their play and to develop their own imaginations and problem solving skills.
PE takes places twice a week and covers lot of different sports. Currently both of these sessions are taught by a PE specialist. We will be taking part in outdoor PE when the weather is reasonable so please ensure children have shoes for the yard or field.
We have fruit daily for the children to access during morning playtime. The children can bring their own water bottle to school to access independently.
Parents please note you can pay a small charge for milk if you wish. Please contact the school office for more information.
